MIT is located in Cambridge, a small city outside Boston, which it shares with Harvard University. This quaint New England town is known for its history and intellectual atmosphere. PURPOSE The Eleventh International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing and Systems, sponsored by IASTED, is a major annual forum for scientists, engineers, and practitioners throughout the world to present the latest research results, ideas, development, and applications in all areas of parallel and distributed processing. The 1998 conference attracted researchers from 38 countries. The 1999 meeting will be held outside Boston, USA and will include keynote addresses, contributed papers, tutorials, and workshops. SCOPE The main focus of PDCS '99 will be parallel and distributed computing and systems viewed from the three perspectives of architecture and networking, software systems, and algorithms and applications. Topics include, but are not limited to, the following: ARCHITECTURE AND NETWORKING parallel/concurrent architecture styles interconnection networks memory systems and management I/O in parallel processing VLSI systems optical computing SIMD/MIMD processors computer networks communications and telecommunications wireless networks and mobile computing SOFTWARE SYSTEMS operating systems programming languages parallel programming paradigms vectorization and program transformation parallelizing compilers tools and environments for software development distributed data- and knowledge-base systems modelling and simulation performance evaluation and measurements visualization ALGORITHMS AND APPLICATIONS parallel/distributed algorithms resource allocation and management load sharing and balancing task mapping and job scheduling network routing and communication algorithms reliability and fault tolerance signal and image processing neural networks high-performance scientific computing application studies OTHERS General Co-Chairs Y. Papers will be selected based on their originality, timeliness, significance, relevance, and clarity of presentation. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings. Please send four copies of a manuscript to the program committee chair by May 15, 1999: Professor S. Q. Zheng Department of Computer Science Box 830688, MS EC31 University of Texas at Dallas Richardson, TX 75083-0688 USA Phone: (972) 883-2329 Fax: (972) 883-2349 Email: sizheng@utdallas.edu A manuscript should not exceed 15 pages, including tables and figures. In the cover letter, please indicate the author for correspondence, and the following information for all authors: his/her affiliation, complete postal address, phone and fax numbers, and email address (make sure the email address is current and working). All questions regarding paper submissions should be directed to Professor Zheng. A special issue consisting of selected papers from PDCS '99 will be published in the International Journal of Parallel and Distributed Systems and Networks. Other papers on this topic may be submitted to: Professor Marlin H. Mickle Editor-In-Chief, IJPDSN Department of Electrical Engineering University of Pittsburgh Pittsburgh, PA 15261 USA TUTORIALS/WORKSHOPS Several workshops are being planned for PDCS '99. Each workshop will focus on a particular topic, and consist of several presentations and open discussions. A one-page abstract of each workshop presentation will be published in the conference proceedings. Anyone wishing to organize a workshop should submit four copies of his/her proposal to the program chair, at the address given above, by May 15, 1999. A workshop proposal should include the title, topics covered, proposed/invited speakers, and estimated length (hours). PDCS '99 will also offer half-day (3hr) tutorials in parallel and distributed computing. Each tutorial proposal should provide the title, topics to be covered, targeted audience, and instructor's biography.
