                  CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
*******************************************************************

CONFERENCE OVERVIEW:
**********************
Joint Conference on Knowledge-Based Software Engineering aims to
provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to discuss
topics in knowledge engineering an in software engineering. Special
emphasis is given to application of knowledge-based methods to
software engineering problems.

The conference originated from efforts to provide a suitable forum
for contacts for scientists mainly from Japan, the CIS countries
and the countries of the Central and Eastern Europe while always
being open for participants from the whole world. JCKBSE'98 will
continue in this tradition and expand for even greater international
participation. Also, the scope of the conference as indicated by
its topics is being updated to reflect the recent development in all
three areas i.e., knowledge engineering, software engineering, and
knowledge-based software engineering.

The official language of the conference will be English.

The proceedings will be published in form of a book by international
publishing house IOS Press and will be available at the conference.

This year's conference offers invited talks, 27 selected full papers
and 24 selected short papers.

We invite all those interested in the knowledge-based and software
engineering to attend the 3rd Joint Conference on Knowledge-Based
Software Engineering at Smolenice Castle, from Wednesday,
September 9th to Friday, September 11th, 1998.

CONFERENCE VENUE:
********************
The conference will be held in Smolenice Castle, a beautiful site
renown as a congress centre providing excellent environment for
scientific conferences. The history of Smolenice Castle reaches
as far as the 14th century when the fortified castle was built
on a wooded hill. In next centuries, Smolenice castle belonged
to several owners and was adopted to their individual needs.

During the Napoleonic war, the castle was burnt down so that
the oldest preserved parts are two round towers and the gate from
the 18th century. The today=92s white stone castle was built on the
ruins in the beginning of our century.

Everybody coming to Smolenice for the first time may enjoy both
feeling of being in historical place and picturesque walking
opportunities in the surrounding park or in Carpathian Mountains.

The beautiful white stone building of Smolenice Castle invites and
welcomes all conference participants.
