Objectives

The goal of this workshop is to advance the dialog among researchers working on
Environmental Modelling on the issue of improving existing and developing new
computational techniques for the efficient solution, on modern computers, of
the
complex models used for the numerical simulation of various environmental
processes. Further, discussions may be initiated on the efficiency and accuracy
of current environmental models, as well as possible improvements concerning
the
degree that physical phenomena are interpreted through the governing equations.
This may be accomplished by exploiting, through the exchange of experience
among
the participants, the robastness, efficiency and range of applicability of
modern computational methods.


Organization

The Workshop is organized by the Working Group on Environmental Modelling of
the European Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics and the Institute of
Applied
and Computational Mathematics of the Foundation for Research and Technology -
HELLAS.


Topics

The intention of the workshop is to emphasize on the following topics:
- the computational techniques underlying the environmental models,
- the implementation of models on modern/state-of-art computer platforms,
- the efficiency and the accuracy of the models,
- the use of inovative numerical techniques able to handle more complicated
  modelling of various physical processes,
- other related topics.


Contributions

Please, send a title for your presentation by October 20, 1998.

If you wish, you may send a note of no more than 4 pages (relative to your
presentation), by October 30, 1998, to be consolidated in a small procceedings
brochure.

For the preparation of the note, please, use LaTeX-format (in standard
docymentstyle e.g. report, 11pt). Graphs or figures (grayscale only) should be
in EPS-format compatible with LaTeX. Plain-text contributions will be also
accepted in case no special symbols exist. For contributions in different
formats it is not guaranteed to be processed properly. The files should be send
to flouri@iacm.forth.gr.


Program

The first day, and possibly part of the second day will be devoted for the
presentations contributed by the participants. During the second day a round
table will be organized for future planning and discussions on new proposals
within the Fifth Framework and other topics of commom interest.
