CALL FOR PAPERS
The Third International Workshop on Advanced Parallel Processing
Technologies
APPT`99
October 19-20, 1999 Changsha, P. R. China
www.njtu.edu.cn/APPT`99
The great mutual acceptance of the first and second International
Workshop APPT`95 and APPT`97 in Beijing and Koblenz encourages us to
continue the fruitful scientific dialogue among China, Germany and other
countries. Based on the established cooperation during the past
meetings, the third meeting should increase the strengthen of
cooperation, and to provide a forum for exchanging new ideas at the
higher technical level. This should be realized by the respective
selected topics of the Workshop on Advanced Parallel Processing
Technologies, which will be held in Changsha, Oct. 19-20, 1999.
This workshop results from cooperations between Northern Jiaotong
University and the University of Koblenz-Landau as well as National
Laboratory for Parallel and Distributed Processing, University of
Hamburg, the University of Applied Sciences of Heide and the City
University of Hong Kong. And this workshop has been planning to take
place biannually alternately in China and Germany. It will act as a
forum for technology exchange for the university and industrial side to
present up-to-date research results and project works in order to
establish new cooperation in developing innovative concepts and
solutions for products towards future markets and setting up long-term
cooperation. The workshop will focus on both theory/methodology and
practice/application realizations. The working language is English.
The topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Parallel & distributed architectures
* Parallel & distributed algorithms
* Parallel programming & parallelizing compilers
* Applications of parallel and distributed computing
* Meta-computing, and Internet applications
* Network security
* Heterogeneous computing environments
* Reliability and fault-tolerance for parallel & distributed
systems
* Wireless networks and mobile computing
* Artificial intelligence techniques for parallel processing
* Neural networks and their applications
* Computer-supported cooperative work
* Distributed operating system
* Hardware/software co-design
* Novel VLSI architectures
* Optical technology in high-performance architectures
Submission Procedures:
Submissions (3 copies) must be written in English and should not exceed
5000 words in length, including figures, tables and references. Accepted
papers will be published in the proceeding which will be available on
the workshop. Submissions should be sent to Dr. XU, Dr. HAN, Prof.
Moeller or Prof. Siemers. Email submissions are acceptable.

A brief Introduction to Changsha
Changsha City is situated in the Central-South China, and on the
lower reaches of the Xiangjiang River. It is the capital of Hunan
province, among the first 24 noted cultural and historical cities of
China promulgated by the State Council.
The city was built in the Western Chou Dynasty dating back more than
3,000 years. It served as a prefecture seat in the old times, and then
became a provincial seat in the 3rd year of Kangxi of Qing Dynasty
(1664). Changsha offers visitors the best of natural beauty and
historical interest. The famous sites include Han Tombs in Mawangdui,
Yuelu Academy, Tianxin Pavilion, Kaifu Temple and so on. Yuelu Moutain,
is regarded as a major place for sightseeing. Besides enjoying a lot of
natural and archaic attractions, a tourist can take a bird view over the
city.
It is always sunshiny in October and temperature is around 20 degree
Centigrade. The transportation in Changsha is very convenient. The
Beijing-Guangzhou Railway runs through the city. Huanghua International
Airport lies 24 kilometers from the downtown area. Every day, there are
dozens of flight schedules from Changsha to the major cities of China.
The four rivers join each other here, so the inland water transportation
is flourishing as well.
Moreover, Changsha is famous for Xiang Xiu (embroidery), fireworks,
TongGuan pottery and porcelain. Xiang cuisine is also well known in the
Country.
